Resistance Training

As we get older, we lose approximately .7 pounds of muscle each year. Muscle requires energy (calories) to maintain itself, thereby the loss of this muscle results in less daily calorie expenditure which equates to slower metabolism.

We can reverse this process by promoting lean muscle through resistance training. This training involves “challenging” the muscles with simple equipment such as dumbbells, resistance tubes, stability ball, etc.  South Shore “Fitness To You” will design a customized resistance training program and teach you how to properly perform this program to achieve the greatest results.

Remember this: Every pound of added lean muscle requires 35-50 calories per day to maintain!

Circuit/Cardio Training

With South Shore “Fitness To You”, the training program of choice is “circuit training”. Why? Because circuit training gives you a total body workout, keeps you moving briskly from set to set and raises your heart rate into your “target heart rate zone”. This elevated heart rate provides aerobic benefit in addition to your muscle building workout so you get “twice the benefit”!

A Polar Heart Rate Monitor will continually give feedback as to your exact heart rate during your workout. It will also indicate:
· Total minutes of your workout
· Average heart rate
· Time in your “target heart rate zone”
· Total calories burned

The "Nutri-Bal Program"

If weight loss is your goal, the proper balance of caloric intake with energy expenditure is imperative. It’s extremely difficult to lose any appreciable weight by exercise alone.  Proper nutrition is key.

My “Nutri-Bal Program” is not a starvation or fad diet. Those types of diets do not teach you how to eat properly. People need nutritious food to properly energize their body. It is senseless and dangerous to starve the body of vital nutrients or eliminate an entire food group from your daily diet.

South Shore “Fitness to You” teaches you how to eat the foods you enjoy, in moderation and up to a daily caloric limit, until you reach your goal weight. At that point, the proper eating habits and caloric equations that I have taught you will keep you on track to maintain your desired goal weight.

The “Nutri-Bal” program includes but is not limited to:
· Weighing-in
· BMI (Body Mass Index) and body fat measurement
· Digital photo (optional)
· Calculation of your RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate)
· Calculation of your recommended daily caloric intake to lose (or gain) one to two
  pounds per week.
· Breakdown of proper percentages of carbohydrate, protein and fat to be
  consumed on a daily basis.
· Analysis of your current typical diet based on a three-day diary that you have
  given to me previously.
· Interpreting nutrition labels on packaged foods and how they can help you attain
  your weight goal.
· Handouts and discussion of tips and daily procedures for “staying on track” and
  achieving your goal.

An important advantage of this weight management program is that there are not many “forbidden” foods. You will be allowed to eat many of the foods you currently eat and like.  Also, once a week, you will be allowed to “cheat” and eat anything you want within reason.

Note: Time duration for this program may be two to three hours.
